Motor Neuron Diorama
This 3-dimensional model, magnified 2,500 times, represents a motor nerve cell within an environment of interacting neurons and a muscle fiber of the skeleton. The membranous envelope is sectioned from the neuron in order to update the fine cytological structure, the organelles and the inclusions within the cell body. Branching dentrites, communicating synapses, and a myelin-wrapped axon with a constriction of Ranvier rise from the surface of the neuron. Part of the axon can be removed to expose the tightly packed layers of surrounding myelin sheath and Schwann sheath and Schwann cell, from which these formed. Mounted on a wooden stand.
